0dB! ECS 8800GT Dual Turbo Version is something as rare as a graphics card that is touted as both quieter and faster than the competition. We haven’t seen many companies make such claims in the past, but thanks to the Arctic Cooling S1 cooler it might actually be true. The quite large heatpipe and heatsink construction has been proven to work with even the hottest high-end cards and as the new 65nm core of the GeForce 8800 GT runs cooler than previous higher-end cards, the S1 should be in for a sweet ride.
Even though the 65nm core runs cooler than the G80, the cooler used by most GeForce 8800 GTs is quite weak, and according to tests done in the labs at ECS, the temperature dropped from 91°C under load to 64°C, a temperature reduction of 30%. The Turbo cooler has fans, if you don’t mind a few decibels and wants those really low temperatures, but the cooler is fully capable of running completely passive (if you have a decent airflow through the case…).
