Even if the desktop market is becoming more and more parallel it’s still far from the demands on the server market. Multiple cores and multi-threading optimizations often result in big gains here and therefore AMD has high hopes for its Magny-Cours processor. This monster sports 12 physical cores and an advanced bus system for powerful multi-CPU configurations. Benchmarks with a 24-core Magny-Cours system has surfaced.

The screenshot showing more than a few active GPUs in the Task manager aside, a user at XtremeSystems has posted CPU-Z screenshots and wPrime score with AMD’s coming server platform.

Magny-Cours is not expected to launch until next year and the processor was pushed up to 3.0GHz clock frequency. With 24 cores wPrime 1024M was finished in just 75 seconds, which is a new world record. Also 32M was tested, and completed in only 3.5 seconds, also a world record.

AMD looks to have come a long way with its new Socket G34 platform and clocking a 12-core processor like Magny-Cours to 3.0GHz is impressive, especially at this early stage.
