Solid State Drives has climbed to really impressive data rates and we have seen several attempts to reach new levels of performance with the new harddrive technology. A PR company has made one attempt available at YouTube. It has worked together with Samsung to build a 24 drive RAID array for 6TB of storage with a maximal transfer rate of no less than 2GB/s. That’s 2000MB/s, which makes the fastest SSDs seem puny.
Samsung’s 256GB drives sport read speeds at 220MB/s so en theory a lossless 24 drive RAID 0 array should result in more than 5GB/s, but as we all know RAID isn’t that efficient, especially when you start hitting bottlenecks within the controller card and other buses.
Either way it is a cooled build with decent performance and it has been demonstrated in a rather unorthodox manner, among others an exciting file transfer test at the end of the movie found below;
