Mobile broadband has been on the move in Sweden for some time now and after seeing more computers being sold for almost nothing with mobile broadband contracts the telephone operators have started to look toward the next generation mobile broadband. Operator 3 has been in the lead and has now announced that it will upgrade its current net with the new HSPA Evolved technology that will enable speeds up to 21Mbit/s.
It claims to be the first operator in Europe to start the upgrade and that the upgrade is performed together with telecom company Ericsson. The 21Mbit/s technology is already a part of the net in Stockholm, but the commercial launch is slated for Q2 2009.
Even if 21Mbit/s is considerably faster than the 7Mbit/s today’s Turbo 3G net offers, HSPA Evolved is expected to offer top speeds of 42Mbit/s in 2010, which should make more than a few ADSL users to rethink their wired connections.
