Yesterday we reported that ATI had released its new Catalyst 6.9 drivers with some very pleasant news for Intel 965 users; support for CrossFire. In the press release there was only mentioned Direct3D CrossFire support so we started to wonder what was really going on. We now have an answer as Elite Bastards simply asked ATI’s graphics card guru Terry Makedon about the OpenGL CrossFire support. Makedon confirmed that there is no CrossFire support for OpenGL games with the 965 chipset, simply because most games use D3D.
ATI is expected to launch an updated driver at the end of the year with support for OpenGL. But all Quake lovers should start pondering whether to acquire that extra Radeon card for their 965 platform.
