Small preview image

AMD seems to have great plans for the upcoming Christmas shopping as it, according to a roadmap published at the Dutch site Tweakers.net, will appear a whole bunch of new AMD processors. The new ones are also quite nice additions, first of all it’s AMD’s first processors for the desktop market using 65nm technology. AMD is expected to launch four Athlon 64 X2 models made with the 65nm manufacturing process, 4000+, 4400+, 4800+ and 5000+ which except from its manufacturing process are identical to current models of the same family. The new 65nm processors will appear in December.

What might be just as interesting is that AMD is also expected to introduce the first processors for its 4×4 platform. This platform will pair two dual-core Athlon 64 processors in one and the same system for a total of 4 physical processor cores. As promised AMD will launch its 4×4 processorer at several speeds and and price ranges but all will be known by the FX suffix; Athlon 64 FX-70, FX-72 and FX-74. The frequencies of these processors will be 2.6GHz, 2.8GHz and 3.0GHz. They come with 1MB of L2 cache and are sold in pairs, which is pretty logic considering the intentions. AMD’s 4×4 processor kit will appear in time for Christmas according to the roadmap and we are truly looking forward to taking a closer look at AMD’s multi-core platform.
