Silicon wafer with AMD quad-core K8L ‘Barcelona’ caught on camera

AMD has just as Intel far sprung plans for quad-core processors and its K8L architecture, which we also know as Barcelona, is expected to arrive next year. Now we finally have picture proof that AMD is getting close with its development and production of the new processors. At The Inquirer they’ve namely been able to catch a whole silicon wafer filled with Barcelona cores on camera. Bareclona will be made with a 65nm manufacturing process but with four processor cores and a L3 cache at 2MB you need a lot of space for each processor. Even if the wafer on the pictures is just a preproduction sample we can only conclude that AMD is getting there.
