IBM has always been good at creating some sort of hype when it comes to releasing a new CPU. Last time we heard how they managed to run a CPU using their new Power6 architecture at 6GHz under laboratory conditions. Laboratory conditions meaning optimal environment and probably a handpicked CPU, however IBM seems to have a really nice CPU going on as PC World reports that IBM will release Power6 CPUs at speeds all the way up to 5GHz, which indeed looks promising. Power6 is due to be released in the middle of next year and will be used in systems demanding from two to 64 CPUs.
