Intel seems to be giving its quad-core server processor a headstart as it, according to PC World, will be launching Clovertown the day before its desktop sibling Kentsfield. Intel is planning a launch of its Xeon 5300 series together with Hewlett-Packard through a new series of workstations from HP on November 13. This would mean that Intel will get a good advantage on the server markets as AMD’s equivalent isn’t expected to arrive until the middle of 2007. Quad-core may not be as efficient on the desktop market, but with servers and workstations things are quite different. And Intel will be the first to take advantage from this.
