That Apple has taken iPod from being a brand to a phenomena is hardly news and the article they’ve published at MP3 Newswire is yet another example of that. They have, before the coming Christmas shopping, published a list of twenty-ish portable multimedia players that are potential alternatives to Apple iPod. Apple will most likely still be the dominating actor but the question is if anyone will be able to grab any major market shares from Apple and close up on it. In the list they’ve included models which should have a chance of competing with iPod.
There are other models with potential though, but the players found on the list more or less speak for themselves. Nice functions, a strong brand, aggressive prices or perhaps several of these. Not surprisingly we see Microsoft represented by Zune but also other strong candidates such as SanDisk Sansa e280 and Samsung YP-K5, which stands out with its integrated speaker and stylish design. Sony is also represented by several models and it’s pretty clear that it is trying to bring back the good ol’ “Walkman days”.
