Sony has some serious issues to resolve when it comes to its Blu-ray format, recently it announced that a component of its Blu-ray unit in the video game console PS3 was missing in action. Something that can turn the supply of PS3s even worse than expected. The next set of bad news didn’t wait for long as Sony has now announced that it will postpone the launch of its stationary Blu-ray player, BDP-S1, to December, 2006, or at worse case scenario the beginning of next year. Sony BDP-S1 was suppose to be launched this week, delayed from its previous launch date in July of this year.
Most likely, Sony has chosen to put the focus on the Blu-ray unit inside of PlayStation 3 instead of its stationary Blu-ray player. Since both units use the same Blu-ray diode, which seems to be the source of all its problems, Sony wants to be sure of that it can make as many PS3 consoles as possible. This is not a fun situation for Sony and it may even become a real thorn in the side for the Blu-ray format as HD DVD seems to be establishing itself on the home electronics market.
