ASUS Striker Extreme is the latest addition to ASUS’ R.O.G. series (Republic of Gamers) where we earlier saw the Crosshair model. Crosshair was for AMD’s Socket AM2 platform and impressed us with a rich list of features. It’s no big surprise that Striker Extreme comes with just as impressive amount of features as it’s based on the NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI chipset. Striker Extreme is in other words for Intel’s Core 2 Duo platform and with features like an LCD display on the I/O panel and LED lighting on the motherboard for easier cable management you quickly realize that this is a board above the rest.
ASUS promises support for bus speeds at over 1333MHz and the motherboard is intended for gamers and tweakers who wants to pressure their systems to the utmost. Unfortunately it seems the money account i pressured a bit too with Striker Extreme, the board namely costs $400 in stores today. We look forward to hearing more about ASUS’ latest R.O.G. creation, but we know for a fact that the board will be present at DreamHack Winter 2006 and that we most likely will get to use the board under some more extreme conditions.
