Sony has been harshly criticized for the delays and the sometimes controversial statements about the video game console’s price. For once, it has now been able to score big points with the buyers and especially the hardcore crowd. Sony has namely announced that you will be able to upgrade the harddrive found in PlayStation 3 and even shown how you to do it. PS3 uses regular 2.5″ SATA harddrives and for about $100 you can get a 100GB harddrive, which is a big upgrade from the 20GB the cheaper version PS3 comes with.
In contrast to this Microsoft urged its buyers to buy an extra 20GB harddrive or store movies downloaded from its new Live service on expensive memory cards. There’s nothing wrong with Microsoft’s new service but the storage is a real problem, which Sony has now shown a solution to. The question is if Microsoft will go down the same path or simply launch an external harddrive with 80GB-100GB capacity, as a complement to the current 20GB model.
