Just a few days ago we reported about how our overclocking expert Marcus “Kinc” Hultin reached really impressive overclocks with XFX’s GeForce 8800 GTX but he has now been able to improve his own result even further. The last time we reported about Kinc’s progress he had managed to push our XFX GeForce 8800 GTX card to over 900MHz GPU frequency. A neat increase from the 575MHz, which NVIDIA limits its partners to use, simply because there’s a risk of instability at higher frequencies. Kinc has now been able to reach a real milestone, namely over 1GHz clock frequency with the graphics core.
It’s the first time we see the very advanced G80 core clocked at such a high frequency, but hopefully not the last. Considering this has been done using “only” a compressor cascade there should be even more to get and you can trust on us trying to improve this very soon. Hopefully it will be later this week, but during DreamHack Winter 2006 we can guarantee you that there will be a lot more of this, so don’t go anywhere.
We have also received a few more GeForce 8800 GTX graphics cards and a number of new processors coming, to be able to offer some more complete benchmarks. But until then you can always look at the delicious pictures displaying extreme graphics card overclocking we have below.
