Intel is the world’s largest processor manufacturer and has with that a great need for chipsets for these. Even if it has a, very successful, development of these of its own it is still dependent on third party manufacturers. Earlier on Intel has been working with ATI as a partner, but after AMD’s acquisition this is no longer an options. Intel has instead turned to SiS and its SiS662 circuits for its budget boards. At the same time it has been having discussions with VIA, but there the angle is a bit different as Intel not only wants VIA to continue developing chipsets for Intel’s platform but also make VIA stop making processors.
