Stanford University has now updated its GPU client for its Folding@Home project and from only having support for ATI’s Radeon X19xx series there is now support for both the X1800 and X1600 series. It’s still just ATI’s graphics circuits which is supported by Folding@Home and whether Stanford is working on support for NVIDIA’s new G80 architecture is yet to be revealed. NVIDIA has been criticized for its graphics circuits’ mediocre performance in GPGPU applications, but the G80 architecture is suppose to be excellent for this according to NVIDIA. But until then its only ATI owners which will be able to enjoy faster folding and nowadays also those with Radeon X1800/X1600 cards.
