Corsair has now announced that it has broadened its support for Intel’s new FB-DIMM platform. Fully Buffered DIMMs are memory modules which is used by Intel’s new dual-core Xeon platform and is primarily for servers and workstations. With these machines a high memory density is very important so it’s comes as no surprise that Corsair has focused a lot on this. It has namely launched new DDR2-667 FB-DIMM modules at 1GB and 2GB capacity. With memory modules at 2GB there will not be any problems with fitting enough RAM in the system. With Intel’s chipsets of the 5000 series this means that you will be able to fit 32GB RAM on some motherboards.

Many manufacturers have already presented similar modules for the FB-DIMM  market but Corsair shows that it is not focusing solely on the consumer and enthusiast market. We’re not sure what these modules will cost, but then again this is not something regular consumers will have to worry about.

Corsair FB-DIMM Features:

  • 240-pin, Full Buffered dual inline memory module
  • Ultra high density using 512MBit SDRAM devices
  • CRC and ECC error detection and correction
  • Advanced Memory Buffer (AMB)
  • JEDEC standard 1.5V high speed differential point-to-point link
  • Four-bit prefetch architecture
  • Off-chip driver (OCD) impedance calibration
  • On-die termination (ODT)
  • Low profile (1.2”), ideal for 1U rack mount servers
