3D performance and Linux aren’t exactly the best of bedmates. Even if NVIDIA has been offering a decent support for Linux the performance has always been behind that of Windows. Nouveau is a so far young project and in no way associated with NVIDIA, although it is a project working for improving the 3D performance of NVIDIA’s graphics cards in Linux. It is currently working through reverse engineering NVIDIA’s closed drivers and creating an alternative driver from the information they gather. Today you can hardly call the driver mature or even remotely such for 3D performance, but there is no doubt this is a project well worth some attention.
