SED (Surface-conduction Electron-emitter Display) is a technology we all want to arrive this year. SED is namely another technology for making flat panel displays and will thus become a competitor to both LCD and PDP (plasma). The advantages with SED which Canon and Toshiba will launch, hopefully eventually, is that it shares many of the pros CRT also has. Extreme contrast ratios, we’ve seen prototypes at up to 100,000:1, it can display more colors and has an almost negligible response time. Now, one of Canon’s early partners has made its voice heard by letting us know that it is not very fond of the idea of Canon sharing patents with Toshiba. This has led to that SED will be delayed until “late 2007” at best.
