LED-based displays are so far rather uncommon, but we’ve earlier seen how among others Samsung launched monitors using this kind of backlighting. Now DigiTimes reports that both Apple and HP are planning to launch laptops which use LED for backlighting. High brightness and low power consumption are probably the two big advantages the two have set their sights on and from what it seems these new models will be launched during the second quarter of 2007. First of all they will launch models in the high-performance segment.
