Ultra seems to have no fear of the term “overkill” as it according to information will present a somewhat crazy product at CES in Las Vegas next week. Ultra will namely display a new ATX power supply with a maximal output at a whopping 2000W. We still consider 1000W PSUs as an oddity on the market and we have a very hard time motivating a PC power supply at 2000W today. From what it seems Ultra will present a completely modular power supply which could be problematic as the 24-pin connector is extra sensitive to disruptions of the chain of signals. We’re excited to see who far companies are willing to go with today’s technology but today a 2000W power supply feels like a complete PR stunt, an impressive such, bu no real connection to reality.
