Intel’s profit down by 39% during the fourth quarter 2006

Intel has now shared its figures for the last quarter of 2006 and there is no doubt that the price war with AMD has affected the chip giant’s profit. Intel has namely dropped 39 percent of its quarterly profit during the fourth quarter of 2006. Despite that, Intel managed to do better than what most analysts had predicted. The net profit during the fourth quarter was 1.5 billion dollar, the same period the year before Intel earned $2.45 billion (net income). But if you don’t count one-time expenses Intel claimed to have made $1.7 billion, or 30 cent per stock. Most analysts had estimated about 25 cent per stock, thus Intel has been doing quite well despite the circumstances.
