AMD/ATI‘s coming graphics circuit R600 will evidently be named X2x00, which sounds quite probable considering that today’s generation is called X1xx0. According to The Inquirer, AMD/ATI has decided to launch four models of R600, but not just different frequencies but it has in fact designed four separate PCBs (printed circuit board), one for each model. The top model will get the suffix XTX, just as the current flagship, and will use a massive PCB almost 30cm long. The card will be equipped with 1GB GDDR4 memory that will work at 2.4GHz, according to the source.
This would result in a mighty bandwidth of 153.6GB/s as AMD/ATI has chosen to use a 512-bit memory bus. GeForce 8800 GTX impressed us at its launch with a bandwidth of 86.4GB/s, which pretty much says it all. But AMD/ATI has three more models coming and from what it seems they will be named X2x00XT, X2x00XL and finally X2000GT. These will use different PCBs and depending on the model they will also have different specifications. More details about the new R600 circuits can be found at The Inquirer. This is still highly unofficial information, but would they be correct things are looking quite promising for AMD/ATI.
“Now, here comes the fun part: of products mentioned here, three require a new power connector, the 8-pin one. The 8-pin was also the reason that ATI managed to get its models in 9-inch size, but we already wrote about that one. Top brass, the XTX – does not care for 8-pins, it wants dual 6-pin rails, just like the 8800GTX.”
