Intel reveal discrete GPU

Already back in December we reported about how Intel was recruiting people for a new project through the company Larrabee Development Group. Now, a month later it has more or less been confirmed that Intel is working on an external graphics circuit as it is continuing its active search for its Visual Computing Group, which is said to be the official name of its Larrabee graphics project. The job ad clearly states that you will be working with discrete graphics circuits and it’s hard to find a more concrete statement from Intel than that.

“The page notes that the group will first focus on “developing discrete graphics products based on a many-core architecture targeting high-end client platforms,” with lower-end products, including graphics products integrated with CPUs, to follow later.”

We’re really looking forward to hearing more about Intel’s graphics circuit venture and we’re excited to see if it will try and compete with AMD/ATI’s and NVIDIA’s high-end circuits.
