Samsung has launched the first 1.8″ harddrive with 60GB of storage using a single platter. 1.8″ harddrives are suppose to be as small and slim as possible and moving from two platters, which you had to use before for 60GB capacity, is a big step forward for many manufacturers. They are always hunting for those extra millimeters when it comes to portable media players and such, which makes Samsung’s new harddrive a highly welcomed addition to the market. The new N series will be launched with 20GB, 30GB, 40GB and 60GB capacities where all are spinning at 4200 RPM with an average search time at 7.14ms. As expected it’s the perpendicular recording technology that makes it possible to reach this kind of density.
