The mere thought of a Solid State Drive as a primary harddrive makes many computer enthusiasts tremble and drool and even if the SSD market is still young, things are starting to happen. We have for the last couple of months seen more and more manufacturers launch SSD products and now when the next actor decides to present itself it is because it has designed an extra slim SSD. SimpleTech has namely displayed the world’s thinnest 64GB SSD of the 2.5″ format measuring only 9.5mm (depth). The new harddrive is a part of SimpleTech’s Zeus family and clearly shows the advantages of the SSD technology for the mobile market, as both power consumption and size are two key characteristics.
“SimpleTech’s Zeus SSDs are currently available with a broad range of interface possibilities including Fiber Channel, SATA, and PATA. The Zeus SSDs are available in standard 2.5- and 3.5-inch form factors, as well as custom form factors. The supported capacities range from 8 to 146 gigabytes (GBs).”
According to SimpleTech competing 64GB SSD units are almost three times the size of its new Zeus model. Just like other SSD solutions the focus seems to be on the OEM market, but we’re eager to see whether the Zeus series will be something worth a closer look. It at least seems very promising. Standing in booth 1337 when revealing its new products in San Diego was perhaps a sign.
