Samsung has presented a couple of new LCD panels all based on the new LED backlighting technology, which makes it possible to manufacture brighter, sharper and thinner displays. Samsung used this technology with both its LCD monitors and its LCD TVs during its presentation at IDCL 2007. The most interesting LCD panel to us was perhaps the model at 30″ and if offered a resolution at 2560×1600 pixels together with 16.7 million colors, 300cd/m2 brightness, 6ms response time, a contrast ratio at 900:1 and finally a color gamut at 111%. This panel is expected to appear in not just Samsung’s assortment, but also third party manufacturers like Apple, Dell and HP.
Except from its 30″ panel it also presented a 15.4″ panel for laptops and a 40″ LCD TV offering a resolution at 1366×768 pixels and contrast ratio at 100,000:1 (!). We’re looking forward to taking a closer look at LED-based LCD panels to see how they measures up to the current models.
