Scientists at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) have made progress in the process of how to use optical lanes on a silicon chip. They’ve namely found a new way to mold the light waves through a process called “microphotonics.” By using two materials with different refractive properties they’ve been able to trap photons and give them new characteristics. There are some problems with polarized light though, this since they only use vertical waves, which makes it impossible to mass produce using this method. There is no doubt though that we will see optical circuits sometime in the near future.
