Last year AMD made one of the PC market’s biggest acquisitions when it laid hands on the Canadian graphics circuit manufacturer ATI. Just one year later rumors have started circulating that AMD may be acquired. Investment company Private Equity Group is namely said to be keeping an eye on AMD, which is currently having a tough time with a rarely seen Intel on the offensive, but have also been left behind on the graphics card market, a market it just entered through the acquisition of ATI. The fact that AMD has been in a better position is hard not to acknowledge, but at the same time a lot has to happen before these drastic measures will become reality.
“We were surprised to see AMD shares rally yesterday given what we believe to be increasing concerns about cash flow at the company. When we polled clients as to the reason behind the strength we were told that private equity rumors were circulating,”
If there is any truth behind these rumors is hard to say but you can count on us following up this one. If AMD would be bought by an investment company it would certainly be an astonishing deal. With AMD’s current ventures we have to say that this sounds quite doubtful though.
