Firefox has had a very positive trend during the last two years but last month it lost some of its shares according to a survey by Net Applications. Firefox dropped for the first time since May 2006 and during January 2007 it went from 14 percent to 13.7 percent. They point out that this could be because of a peak in December though, simple since the market share in January is still higher than November, 2006. Interestingly, Apple’s Safari browser is gaining shares.
Safari went from 4.2 percent in December to 4.7 percent in January and according to Net Applications this is simply because more people are using Mac OS X. Internet Explorer is still the unthreatened king of the hill with 79.8 percent.
“Mozilla Corp.’s Firefox browser lost market share last month, Web metrics company Net Applications reported Wednesday. But Apple Inc.’s Safari continued to gain ground, an indicator of a slow but sure uptick in Macintosh sales.”
