Dell has decided to launch laptops without operating systems and has done so after requests from customers and users. At its IdeaStorm site, Dell has received suggestions and ideas from the user community and just a week after that the site was launched it has decided to change its assortment according to how the votes were cast by the users. Three of the top four questions at the site are about Dell computers with Linux and by adding its family of Latitude laptops to its n series it has now broadened the number of models sold without a pre-installed operating system. There is still no intention of shipping the computer with Linux, but it’s getting closer.
“I wanted to share some details that bring us a bit closer to the third most popular idea thread, linux laptop—an idea that has earned almost 37,000 points as I’m writing. For the last several weeks, we’ve been working to bring Latitude notebooks to the n-Series lineup. n-Series are Dell products that ship with no operating system pre-installed. We now offer the Latitude D420, D520, D620 and D820.”
We’re very happy that Dell is starting to consider the customers wishes and hopefully this is just the start for those who has no intention of using Microsoft’s operating system.
