Nintendo used the code-name Revolution for its new video game console Wii. The reason it chose this code-name was that this console would be something completely new and we later found out that the revolution would come with the new controller. The speculations were many and very diverse. When Nintendo finally presented its new controller using motion detection, based on Benedetto Vigna’s MEMS chips, we could all stop speculating. IEEE Spectrum has now published an article about the man behind Wii’s motion sensors and this is an article that takes us back to the beginning and leads us up to when STMicroelectronics and Nintendo decided to shake hands.
