Sony has been working on an online service for its PlayStation 3 console to give Microsoft and Xbox 360 a fight for the buyers and now that is has announced Home, it has brought out the big drums and is certain to make a big fuss. Home is namely nothing less than a virtual 3D real-time community and the action takes place in a very detailed environment, which could just as well been a game. Home will be demonstrated during Game Developer’s Conference in San Fransisco and is set to arrive in the fall. Every user is able to create its very own avatar, which is then given an apartment. After that the avatar can walk around in the virtual world to return home after the walk.

Home makes it possible for users to communicate and come together to play games, shop, swap media and further enhance their environments. Home will be a free download from the PLAYSTATION®Store and can then be accessed from your XMB (XrossMediaBar).

It’s up to each and everyone of you to design your own avatar, but also your own apartment. In your own home you will be able to access the media you’ve stored on your harddrive and play it live in the apartment.
