Intel has now expanded its assortment of quad-core processors by launching two new Xeon processors. Xeon L5320 and L5310 are the two new models working at 1.86GHz and 1.6GHz respectively. This may sound a bit low and comparing them to previous models it is, but there is a reason for this. The new Xeon processors are a part of Intel’s Energy Efficient series and has a specified Thermal Design Power at a mere 50W, which is practically nothing when it comes to four physical cores. The other specifications are the same as current models, a total of 8MB L2 cache and a 1066MHz processor bus. The prices will be 519 USD and 455 USD in quantities of a 1000 units.

“In addition, these new processors represent a nearly ten-fold improvement in power consumption per core in just 1½ years.*** The company attributes this collective success to the merits of its breakthrough Intel® Core™ microarchitecture and aggressive design execution.”
