HFX micro has some obvious similarities with Apple Mac mini and AOpen mini PC as it is a computer with minimal measurements. mCubed is a manufacturer that has made a reputation through its fanless solutions, which in turn have been adopted by many HTPC owners. Simply because silence is an important feature when it comes to living room computers. mCubed has continued down the same path and despite its minimal measurements HFX micro is completely fanless. Just like previous cases of the HFX series this means that there are some beefy heatsinks on the side of the case and a well planned design. To keep the heat at a minimum mCubed has intended the case for mobile PC components, just like AOpen mini PC.
In fact, if you open up HFX micro you will find a motherboard from AOpen. An AOpen i945Tt-VFA which is best paired with an Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile. To begin with HFX micro will be sold as a barebone, but the case may become available separately later on, if mCubed can determine if any more FlexATX/miniITX motherboards are suitable for the case design. Despite the minimalistic design there is room for two 2.5″ harddrive and a TV tuner, thus completing the HTPC.
HFX will present its new micro model at CeBIT and it will also have some other goodies coming, or what would you say about HFX Micro S, which is even smaller than HFX micro as it lacks a DVD player, and is then suppose to be a nice workstation. Or why not a Silent Box HFX Storage for up to 4 harddrives, matching the HFX mini series design.
We’ve been able to get a hold of some pictures of HFX micro, but also the new HFX Mini Metal. More information will appear in the coming days.
