Intel has presented its alternative for flash-based harddrives; Z-U130 Value Solid-State Drive. This is based on NAND flash circuits and has been equipped with the USB interface. The advantages with Intel’s SSD are, of course, the same as the competition, but the difference is that it uses an “external” interface instead. The storage capacity isn’t really in the same division as the rest; 1 GB, 2GB, 4GB and 8GB, and the read/write speeds at 28MB/s and 20MB/s aren’t quite up to par with the rest, but instead Intel has promised that its disks have been thoroughly tested and comes with an extremely high reliability, which in turn reflect the purpose of the disks;
“The drives will also be used in a variety of Intel-based computing platforms, such as servers, emerging market notebooks and low-cost, fully featured PCs. In addition, it will be used in Intel embedded solutions for routers and point of sale terminals.”
