That an optical unit doesn’t have a take up a whole 5.25″ slot by itself is no secret, but so far this has only been taken advantage of with laptops to save space. Plextor has now launched a solution that use these slim line devices in a different way. Plextor PX-DB600 makes it possible to fit two optical drives into a regular 5.25″ slot. Simply by housing two slim line devices in the same 5.25″ slot, which literally opens up new possibilities when you have a limited number of expansion slots.
Plextor PX-DB608AL is the base kit that will hit the stores in April and it contains the following;
- The PX-DB600 dual bay unit with 2 slim line slots, including interface boards, and slot covers
- One PX-608AL slim line slot loaded optical drive which is capable of the following speeds:
