The OLPC project, One Laptop Per Child, has an important goal; a cheap product available on many markets where regular computer purchases are impossible due to the high costs. Despite the manufacturing cost being the most important part of the OLPC project this doesn’t mean that the hardware of the system has to remain the same. The OLPC foundation has namely announced that it will update the OLPC specifications on pretty much every point. The first version of the OLPC was equipped with a 366MHz AMD processor, 128MB RAM and 512MB NAND flash for storage. The new specifications include an AMD Geode LX-700 processor at 433MHz with even lower power consumption and twice the RAM and storage capcity; up to 256MB and 1024MB respecitvely.

“The 7.5″ sunlight capable screen has a resolution of 1200×900 mono and 692×520 color at 200 DPI. It uses the draft 802.11s ESS mesh networking and also supports 802.11b/g. Of course, it still has the three USB ports, stereo speakers, 30FPS VGA webcam, SD card slot, and microphone.”
