Samsung seems to be one of the manufacturers that has realized that many LCD monitor customers aren’t just looking for low response times but also good image quality. If there is anything LCD monitors are known for lacking its colors, but this is something Samsung is aiming to improve with a new lighting technology. By using a LED backlighting with the LCD panel Samsung hopes to present a lot more realistic colors, which according to Samsung will be equal to those of high-end flatscreen TVs.
“The LED-backlit monitor panel has an industry-high color saturation level of 111% (of NTSC standard) compared to a saturation level of only 72% of NTSC for conventional monitors and will satisfy consumers used to the crisp colors prevalent in high-definition broadcasting.”
The new LED backlighting will be used with a new 24″ model from Samsung that will offer a better color reproduction, a contrast ratio at 1000:1 and a resolution at 1920×1200 pixels. We’re eager to see how the LED technology will be received by the market and Samsung seems to be one the first manufacturers to adapt the technology on the monitor market. We’ve seen a few LED monitors earlier and even a couple of laptops using displays with LED backlighting.
