Radeon HD 2000 seems to be the final name of AMD’s coming graphics cards series and the reason for it to swap the classic X for HD is that AMD wants to emphasize the AVIVO HD technology. The top model of AMD’s DirectX 10 family will therefore be called Radeon HD 2900 XT and the cards of the 2900 series will boost a whopping 320 stream processorer (shaders), two and a half times more than the 128 of GeForce 8800 GTX. The fact that these 320 stream processors are backed up by a 512-bit memory interface makes the cards look even more interesting. Except from an integrated support for CrossFire, the Radeon HD 2900 series also sports 24x antialiasing, 128-bit HDR rendering and HDMI with 5.1 audio.
As expected, the coming RV630-based graphics cards will be named Radeon HD 2600, while RV610 will be called Radeon HD 2400. There are no detailed specifications for these circuits, but AMD is expected to launch the Radeon HD 2000 family any day now.
