LG was the first manufacturer to launch an HD player supporting both HD DVD and Blu-ray. Even if LG BH100 lacks support for HDi and costs $1,000 it is still an interesting solution. If nothing else, Samsung’s choice of doing a hybrid player of its own is a proof of that. Samsung BD-UP5000 will be launched in the USA at the end of the year and arrive in Europe a few months later. Samsung has been a dedicated follower of Blu-ray, but has now chosen to broaden to HD DVD. Unfortunately there is no information about the price of the player, but Samsung has expressed its concern for the competing formats and how it hopes to offer the consumers some more security, which hopefully means a humane price.
