The world’s largest processor manufacturer continues to drop news on us during the Intel Developer Forum, but far from everything is for the PC market. Intel has now presented a whole new multimedia processor solution, also known as SoC (System-on-a-Chip) that will be used in home electronics. Intel CE 2110 is the name of the new media processor that combines a 1GHz processor core with a powerful A/V and a graphics circuit, and an I/O component. All of this is gathered inside a single chip and makes it possible for system builders to save money and space when developing new multimedia system.
“This all-in-one component design becomes increasingly important in today’s marketplace as CE manufacturers look to accelerate time to market, and develop smarter, more cost-effective consumer electronics designs that provide the processing performance, flexibility and headroom needed to deliver advanced revenue-generating services, such as Voice over IP (VoIP), video phone, interactive gaming, enhanced karaoke and e-learning.”
Several manufacturers have already shown interest in the new circuit and will use Intel’s new media processor. Among others, ASUS offers a set top box with Intel’s new processor today already, while the manufacturer Digeo is planning both set top boxes and digital HD media records with the CE 2110 processor.
