Intel has announced that the current processors Core 2 Quad Q6600, Xeon X3220 and X3210 will be upgraded to a new stepping that lower the power consumption by up to 10%. All are based on the Kentsfield core has a B3 stepping today. The old TDP was at 105W for the Q6600 while the new G0 stepping lowers this to 95W and at the same time it raises the threshold for the maximal allowed temperature with 11 degrees (Celsius). This is the only update with the new stepping and Intel is not expecting any floods of new customers because of this update. The new stepping requires a BIOS update, but on the other hand it also lowers the cooling requirements.
