Pioneer has, just as expected, launched its BDC-2202 Blu-ray player, one of the first PC Blu-ray players on the market. The player will read and write CD/DVD media, but only read Blu-ray discs. BDC-2202 reads Blu-ray media at up to 5x speed and Blu-ray dual-layer media at up to 2x speed. Pioneer BDC-2202 cannot be used for burning Blu-ray media, a letdown for some, but at the same time, Pioneer has been able to keep the price at a relatively reasonable level. Pioneer BDC-2202 has a recommended price at 299 USD. Far from cheap, but considerably more humane than previous Blu-ray devices.
