Microsoft reinvents the splitscreen

Microsoft’s Indian researcher and project leader Udai Singh Pawar has now unveiled a technology that makes it possible for two people to use a single computer with only one monitor. The idea for this odd project came up when they realized that at many companies around the world they have rather limited computer budgets. Microsoft’s answer to this is a software that simply divides a computer and its monitor into two. The processing power is divided evenly and the monitor is split into two fields, completely independent of each other. This makes it possible for two people to use the same computer, but for different applications, the only thing you need is two keyboards and two mice.

You will also be able to share files and information by simply dragging them between the two user sessions, but the basic idea is to get twice as much work done with a single computer. Microsoft’s development group in India still has a lot of work to do and it will take a few more years before this system will become commercial, but Microsoft is certainly expanding the use of AMD’s and Intel’s Virtualization technologies, which let users share the resources of a computer.

“At the most basic level, we are allowing two users to work completely independently on the same machine, sharing both the processor and monitor,” said Udai Singh Pawar, assistant researcher and project leader.
