FutureMark is perhaps best known for its 3D benchmark suite; the 3DMark series, whereof we’re eagerly awaiting the next version that will focus completely on DirectX 10. There is more than just “plain” 3D benchmarks in Futuremark’s portfolio and the latest addition is actually for Symbian 9-based handheld devices. It’s mainly smartphones that are using this relatively complex operating system and now it’s possible for owners of this kind of devices to compare performance through SPMark. SPMark for Symbian 9, which is basically the same as SPMark 4, is available as a free version and a Pro version, where the difference is that the latter can also test various applications and the battery, while the free version focuses on what FutureMark does best; 3D performance.
