The OLPC has now finally arrived in the hands of school children. The first country to receive and hand them out is Uruguay as 160 lucky students received one laptop each. President Vazquez himself was there to hand them out to the kids, really showing how important this project is to Uruguay. An initial $15 million dollars have been invested in the project and the country estimates that all schools will be using the OLPC laptop in 2009. The kids were more or less ecstatic over receiving their first computer and it didn’t take long before they had turned them on and started playing around with the settings and fiddling with the applications.
