HELIOS has together with the developers Terra Soft released a free version of Yellow Dog Linux for PlayStation 3. Yellow Dog Linux first appeared when we heard that Terra Soft was shipping PlayStation 3 with Linux preinstalled. Well now HELIOS has started distributing a special version of Yellow Dog Linux that is completely free and makes it possible to turn your PlayStation 3 into a Linux server. This version is a bit simplified compared to the one they sent along with the preinstalled consoles, but it still offers a load of features and possibilities that a regular PS3 does not. HELIOS has published an installation guide and a list of download mirrors to get you started.

“Our Linux distribution for PS3 is another milestone in our support for the Open Source Community”, – Helmut Tschemernjak, CEO and President of HELIOS Software. “And bringing our software to the PS3 underlines in the most obvious way, that HELIOS Software runs everywhere: Beginning with UNIX and Intel Linux to Mac OS X, Windows, and now the PS3 Entertainment Center”.
