DFI is accustomed to making things a bit more advanced than the rest. A great example is the RD600 chipset, which it after a lot of effort (and stubbornness) managed to get on the market, and around the corner we have the next great motherboard from DFI. DFI will namely present its new X38-based motherboards during Computex and despite that Intel’s official specifications has no mention of DDR2 support, this is what DFI will be using for its X38 motherboard.
Over at VR-Zone they’ve published a photo of DFI LANPARTY X38-T2R which will sport the new improved memory controller, but still be DDR2, which could result in even better performance than equivalent DDR3 system. Although, it seems that DFI will also launch X38-T3R, which is basically the same board but with DDR3.
It seems that there are more manufacturers that are preparing DDR2-flavors of Intel’s X38 chipset. This may not come as any kind of surprise though as the DDR3 technology is still inhibited by its slow timings and latencies. More information should arrive soon.
