Sapphire has presented a number of new graphics cards based on both NVIDIA and AMD circuits during Computex, but its perhaps most interesting addition to the market is its Radeon HD 2600 Dual. Sapphire has namely continued its tradition of designing graphics cards with dual GPUs and after Radeon X1950 Pro Dual we will have Radeon HD 2600 Dual. The concept is quite simple really, Sapphire has fitted two Radeon HD 2600 graphics circuits on the same PCB and connected them with a PLX PCIe bridge. In short, it’s built a CrossFire connection directly on the circuit board. Sapphire has equipped the card with CrossFire connectors, which means that you will be able to use two of Radeon HD 2600 Dual cards in a Quad CrossFire setup.
Whether this is just a proof of concept or if Sapphire will actually launch this card remains to be seen, just like the detailed specifications. But if so, we should be able to expect quite a few Dual cards and see Quad CrossFire reall take off.
